Strut, Shimmy, and Sparkle: Foulk Living’s Fashion Show Turns the Runway into a Dance Floor

The hottest fashion-forward spot recently was Foulk Living in Wilmington, Delaware, as residents of the senior living community and the staff came together for a riotously fun Fashion Show and Dance Extravaganza. The event had everything…fabulous outfits, awesome moves, great music, and a lot of joy.  

The brainchild behind this event was Leslie Johnson, Executive Director of Foulk Living. “I wanted to change things up with our programming,” Leslie said. “Our residents love music, love dance, and love fashion. This was a great way to incorporate all three into one great show of which they were the stars.” 

Staff from all departments and residents from all levels of care were encouraged to hit the runway. The only requirement was to wear something they love—and be ready to strut their stuff. “We told everyone to put on their favorite outfits and join in the fun,” Leslie said. “And if someone didn’t have something special to wear, we offered to bring in options!” 

Leslie herself set the tone when she kicked off the show. “The music started, I began dancing down the runway, and everyone gradually,  or not-so-gradually, joined in on the fun,” she said. Leslie added that Jackie Custis, Foulk Living’s new Life Enrichment Director, helped put the event together and boogeyed away with the residents. 

And just like that, the runway became a dance floor. There were walkers, dancers, and wheelchairs. “It was a great bonding opportunity,” Leslie said. “Everyone had so much fun.” 

In the end, the event wasn’t just about fashion or dancing—it was about joy, laughter, and reminding everyone that no matter your age, a good outfit and a great song can lift your spirits. 

So, what’s next for Foulk Living? A resident-led flash mob? Lip-sync battles? A dance-off in the dining room? With Leslie at the helm, anything’s possible.
